Baptism

For the baptism of an infant, it is necessary that there be a founded hope that the infant will be brought up in the Catholic faith. If such a hope is altogether lacking, it will be neccessary for parent(s) or legal guardian(s) to meet with the Pastor for further catecises so that this requirement can be clarified.

Pre-Baptism Meeting

Parents are asked to call the office and schedule a meeting with the Pastor before they attend class.

Sponsors (Godparent)

To be admitted to the role of sponsor, a person must:

• Be designated as sponsor and have the qualifications and intention of performing this role.
• Be at least 16 years old.
• Be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the sacrament of the Eucharist and leads a life in harmony with the faith and role to be undertaken.
• If married, married in the Catholic Church.
• Not be the father or mother of the one being baptized.

Note: a baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic faith community may be admitted as a Christian witness together with a Catholic sponsor.

Classes

• After the interview, attend a baptismal class.
• Classes are held by appointment only.
• Both father and mother and/or legal guardian are expected to attend.
• Sponsors are required to have completed  a baptism class.

Scheduling

• Once the baptismal class has been completed, a date for the child’s baptism can be scheduled.
